SUNDAY LUNCH
Not to bore you with details but the menu was southern comfort through and through: thin sliced smoked ham, Vermont maple syrup laced with baked beans; collard greens infused with pepper bacon; wine and more wine; peach pie laden with birthday candles and what else? Real Southern Comfort.
War stories recounted years of coloured escapades kept secret and retold only amongst this small circle of precious friends. Birthday presents opened with no preservation of wrappings in mind then quickly shoved to dark recesses too embarrassing to share. A futile gesture.
Jokes bawdy and irreverent.
Laughter.
Tears of hilarious joy fell copiously down cheeks and into smiles.
How many times at a sit-down can you sing that happy birthday song?
Outrageous…
Beautiful. I really love these colors. I use them a lot in my weaving and quilting. In my mind they are celebration colors. This pic seems to be in motion. The way you have used the colors it doesn’t seem static, it sort of dances.

Thank you so much Linda for your colourful comment!! And…I am so impressed with your weaving. My “expertise” came in the form of Navajo and Native Indian-American woven rug patterns and techniques. Tapestry, if you will. Complicated drafts such as you use I have always admired.

Your painting sings to me!
P.S. Don’t even think of ever finishing that jumper because every minute spent not painting is a waste of your talent and time.:)

Wow! Neat use of secondary triad colors, Jots! Oh, the Birthday song just keeps going on and on and on! Your writing is as colorful as your art! Love it!

You are a Dear One, Dina. Your post/images of Norfolk I’ve sent to my girlfriends in UK and my friend who travelled with me. A reminder of our two weeks in Salthouse and Blakeney…your photos just captured everything beautiful about the place…and our time together. Thank you so much.

Good food….. Good wine……… Good friends.
What else can a Man ( or for that matter a woman) need in the moment. But how many of us choose to consciously treasure these moments?

Thanking you for your comment, Shakti. You are right…good food, good wine, food friends. Most likely why this particular painting depicts the memory in such brilliant hues of colour. This particular group of friends? Over-the-top colourful…

Good friends around a meal is a good thing. But I wonder, was it your birthday? Well done on the painting … love the colors … but I’m sad that I’ve taken so long to get here.

Nice painting.
They ate everything and were drenched in their own tears from remembering good times. You know, the time June slipped and splattered in the flower bed from all that wine.

Honestly, Missy TM…I look at my stuff. Then, I look at yours…and others. I don’t really know if my watercolour(s) are good or not. I can’t tell…mostly because when I get done putting them together….they are so comfortable…my objectivity is completely gone…if it was ever there to begin with. However…I do know what I like. I know what I like to be conveyed. I do like your…conveyance talent(s). Thank you for the one-sided chat. R.

I felt like I was there, though for the best of all parties, it’s better I wasn’t. Southern Comfort and I have a dark history, too dark for a light hearted lunch.

A perfect day indeed, Ms. R!
Love, love, love the colours and vibrancy of your painting! They match the words that I so wish I were a fly on the wall to partake of, if only silently….

Have a funny feeling (as in humorous) that you being “silent” is not a given nor a guarantee should you be plastered to any wall…or flat surface. You’d be right in the thick of it….with the rest of us! Dangerous. Remember? Don’t forget….

Ahem. Wonder where that feeling may have come from. I may, on occasion, have “managed” to remain silent. Maybe. Yet you are absolutely right, I would have definitely have wanted to be in the thick of it with the rest of you. Yes. Dangerous. Looking forward to that day….

Raye, a woman after my own heart. I love the vivid use of colors and story telling. I can just hear the syllables of words being elongated in the story telling. And, of course, no southern meal with story telling would be complete without a few “bless his (or her) hearts.” I could hear them from your pictures and prose. Well done, BTG

ha! was that a request for a ‘Bless your heart’ moment?!!
the southern meal sounds wonderful, and here in ecuador it’s ‘voting day’ so we’ve been under a dry law since friday! i’ll send the magic carpet over for a glass of vino tinto, por favor!
the painting is wonderful and will always record the laughter of the day!
